Booking choice: The day trip with 8 tastings and lunch, from $364 per person. Check dates Tour details
Every big house runs its own visits: a walk through the chalk cellars, an explanation of the method, then a tasting in a room built to impress. The cellars are the reason to go. Some were Gallo-Roman chalk quarries; all of them sit around 10 °C all year, so bring a layer.
The prices below come from each house's own visit page or the Épernay tourist office, checked in late October 2026. They are per adult, in euros, for the cheapest standard visit.
The quick answer
Start with Pommery or Mumm in Reims (from €30) and Moët & Chandon in Épernay (from €48). Ruinart (€90) needs booking well ahead and takes no walk-ins. Veuve Clicquot (from €36) closes in winter. For a big house plus growers without the planning, the day trip with 8 tastings books it for you.
Which champagne houses can you visit?
In Reims: Veuve Clicquot, Pommery, Mumm, Ruinart, Taittinger and Lanson. In Épernay: Moët & Chandon, Mercier, Perrier-Jouët and de Castellane. Pol Roger does not take visitors.
Prices are the lowest standard visit for an adult in 2026.

Taittinger's price is from its 2024 reopening, when the Saint-Nicaise cellars came back after 18 months of works; its 2026 list did not load for us. Recent price changes are tracked in champagne house tour prices 2026.
Is the Moët & Chandon tour worth it?
Yes, for the cellars: 28 km of galleries under the Avenue de Champagne. Take the €65 Signature tour, which the house itself recommends for first-timers.
Moët is the big name on the Avenue, and its visits are slick and well run, in English or French, with departures all day. The entry visit, The Imperial Moment (€48, 90 minutes), pours Moët Impérial and Rosé Impérial. Signature (€65) swaps the rosé for Grand Vintage Blanc, which is the more interesting glass. Grand Vintage (€85) pours the vintage white and rosé. Above that, the visits run €190 to €460.
The cellars have a lift and a wheelchair entrance, which is rare in Champagne. What Moët does not give you is a person who made the wine, so pair it with a grower in the afternoon. One warning for tour shoppers: the sommelier tour stops at the Moët gift shop, not on a cellar visit.

How far is Veuve Clicquot from Paris?
About 145 km. The visitor centre is at 1 rue Albert Thomas in Reims, 46 minutes from Paris by TGV, then about 12 minutes on bus C or a taxi.
Veuve Clicquot runs five visits, all with a cellar tour and tasting: Brut Yellow Label (€36, 1 hour), blended rosé (€60), One Quality, The Finest (€80, 90 minutes), The art of aging (€160) and La Grande Dame (€260, 4 hours). Book online. The house sets its age limit at your country's legal drinking age, and 21 where no law exists.
Opening is the trap. In 2026 it reopened on 7 April after a winter closure from 28 December, opened daily only from 29 June to 30 August, and runs Wednesday to Sunday from 4 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. The private trip from Paris does the logistics: hotel pickup at 7:30, the visit at 10:00, home by 4pm.

Ruinart for the deepest experience, Pommery for value and art, Taittinger for Roman-era chalk quarries, and Mumm for an easy visit near the centre.
- Ruinart, 4 rue des Crayères: the oldest house on the hill, here since 1768. €90 for adults, €50 for ages 7 to 17, groups of 12 at most. Book weeks ahead.
- Pommery, 5 place du Général Gouraud: from €30 for an hour with one glass, €48 for two hours and two glasses. Open almost every day of the year, with an audioguide option. Unaccompanied minors may not enter.
- Taittinger, 9 place Saint-Nicaise: chalk quarries dug in Gallo-Roman times. About an hour, booked online, Tuesday to Sunday.
- Mumm, 34 rue du Champ de Mars: €30 to €60, all 90 minutes, in four languages. Under-18s come with an adult.
- Lanson, 66 rue de Courlancy: from €32, with child prices and a shop you can walk into without booking.

Do you need to book champagne house tours?
For the big houses, yes. Ruinart and Pommery require it, Moët and Veuve Clicquot sell online and fill up. Walk-in tastings work in the bars on the Avenue de Champagne.
Moët says plainly that you can visit without a booking but places are limited. Ruinart takes no walk-ins at all. Lanson's shop and tastings need no reservation, and in Épernay the tourist office lists champagne bars and tasting rooms on the Avenue that pour by the glass. Weekends from May to October and the Habits de Lumière weekend in December fill first.
Two houses to cross off: Pol Roger does not open to the public, and Dom Pérignon is not on the tourist office's list of houses to visit; you see the monk's tomb in the abbey church at Hautvillers instead.
Skip the booking puzzle: one big house and two family producers, picked for your date, with lunch.

Only the private Veuve Clicquot trip plans its visit around a named house. Every shared tour from Paris names Moët, Veuve Clicquot and others only as examples.
| Tour | What the listing says about the big house |
|---|---|
| Private Veuve Clicquot | Veuve Clicquot, with “a relevant alternative” if it is unavailable |
| 8 tastings & lunch | One major house “such as” Mumm, Veuve Clicquot, Moët & Chandon, Mercier, Pommery, Lanson or Nicolas Feuillatte |
| Small group, Reims & Épernay | “such as” Veuve Clicquot, Moët & Chandon, Taittinger or Nicolas Feuillatte, “subject to availability” |
| Sommelier tour | Pressoria (Pommery) and Charles Mignon or Mercier; Moët gift shop only |
| 3 family domains | No big house: three family estates |
That is normal practice, not a trick: the houses allocate group slots late. If the house is the whole point, book it direct and take the train.
Reims Cathedral, a family producer and a big house subject to availability, eight guests at most.
Check dates for the small-group Reims and Épernay tourWhat is grower champagne?
Champagne made by the family that grows the grapes, marked RM on the label. Big houses are NM: they buy most of their grapes.
The Comité Champagne codes are small but printed on every label: RM, Récoltant Manipulant (grower producer); NM, Négociant Manipulant (merchant producer, the big houses); CM, Coopérative de Manipulation; RC, a cooperative member selling under their own name. With 16,200 growers working 90% of the vineyard, there is a lot of RM out there, and very little of it is exported.
A grower visit is a kitchen-table affair: the person pouring often pruned the vines. Cristine, on the three family domains day: “We had a fantastic day. Everything from logistics to lunch to the tastings was great. [...]”

Explore the three family domains day from Reims Tour detailsWhen are the champagne houses closed?
In winter. Veuve Clicquot shuts from early January to April, de Castellane opens only 12 March to 22 December, and Mercier closes for about six weeks from New Year. Pommery and Moët stay open.
Mumm cuts to Thursday to Monday from November, runs fewer days from mid-January and lists no hours from 22 December to 14 January. Mercier drops to Wednesday to Sunday after 15 November, with a midday break. Pommery closes only on 25 December and 1 and 2 January. Moët states no seasonal closure.
Mondays catch people out too: Veuve Clicquot and Taittinger close every Monday outside high summer. The winter-by-winter detail is in champagne house winter opening 2026, and the seasons in the best time to visit Champagne.
